Nearly two years after launch, Star Wars: The Old Republic will add Player-vs-Player combat through the Galactic Starfighter expansion set to launch in December, BioWare has announced.
In addition to 12v12 space battles, the free Galactic Starfighter expansion features new starships, a "wide set" of customization and upgrade options, multiple battle zones, and new gameplay modes.
Active Star Wars: The Old Republic subscribers will be offered early access to Galactic Starfighter starting on December 3, while the content will be available for preferred status players (those who purchase anything from the online store) beginning on January 14.
The Galactic Starfighter expansion will be offered for all other players last, starting on February 4, 2014.
"Galactic Starfighter will be a deep experience that will continue to grow over time," BioWare Austin general manager Jeff Hickman said in a statement. "We can't wait for both our current and new players to get their hands on it soon."

Konami has confirmed a November 8 release date in the UK, with a RRP of £29.99. The collection will be available on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. No date for North America was specified.
Alongside the announcement, series producer Dave Cox has teased a PC version of Mirror of Fate HD, tweeting a picture of the game running on a laptop computer alongside the message "No comment :)".

Tomb Raider and Deus Ex publisher Square Enix has announced an all-new crowdfunding platform called Collective, made possible through a partnership with crowdfunding site Indiegogo.
The program is described as a "curated platform" that will allow creators to post ideas and have gamers decide whether those concepts should become a reality or not.
Developers will pitch their ideas to a "dedicated, core gaming community," which includes a due diligence "evaluation phase" from Square Enix.
If the idea is approved after 28 days of processing through the feedback platform, the project will be eligible for crowdfunding through Indiegogo.
In addition, Square Enix said it will use its "experience of bringing games to market" to help creators understand how much money they will need to raise to make their idea a reality. All projects will be checked by Square Enix to ensure that the scope of the pitch is in line with the developer's "ability and ambition" to deliver.
Submitting pitches to Collective is free, though creators will need to agree to "some terms and conditions."
Square Enix also said that creators "could" have the chance to work with "older Eidos IP" from the company's back catalog for new projects. More information about submission parameters and IP selection will be provided at GDC Next in November.
According to a representative for PC chip maker Intel, it is not a question of if Grand Theft Auto V will be released on PC, but when. Director of marketing for Intel's Premium Notebooks Chris R. Silva told PC Gamer that the open-world game won't remain a console-exclusive for much longer.
"At least with Grand Theft Auto, I don't think it'll be console-exclusive very long. But that's what happens when you have a brand new launch with two companies that have lots of money trying to make sure they have content."
The reason Rockstar Games has not announced GTAV for PC, according to Silva, is because "Somebody paid a lot of money to make sure that title was exclusive."
The PC iteration of Grand Theft Auto IV launched about eight months after the console versions shipped in April 2008. Nearly 600,000 people have signed an online petition calling on Rockstar Games to release GTAV on PC.

Also in the interview, Silva said Microsoft's decision to launch the Halo series as a console-exclusive, with ports of the original and Halo 2 coming later, "hurt" the brand overall. No Halo game has been released on PC since Halo 2.
The Xbox One's Game DVR feature will not automatically record every Achievement a player unlocks, Microsoft director of product planning Albert Penello has clarified on NeoGAF.
"It won't be automatic for every Achievement. It's a feature that developers can unlock for achievements, OR, for instance, have hidden in the game for doing something cool or discovering something hidden," Penello said. "Basically, we allow developers access to Game DVR and they can put conditions on an automatic recording."
"But not every Achievement will automatically be recorded," he added.
Separately, a Microsoft representative provided a statement with more insight into the ways in which content can be captured on Xbox One using Game DVR.
"Xbox One keeps a rolling record of your most recent gameplay, and there are two main ways for this video to be captured by Game DVR," the representative said. "First, game developers mark 'greatest clips' that happen within the game that represent fun and interesting moments within gameplay, such as when you unlock certain Achievements. Additionally, you can also issue commands, with either your voice or the controller, to capture interesting moments you would like to record or that just happened."

The Obliteration game mode for Battlefield 4 is designed for 24 players on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and 32 combatants on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. In this mode, a bomb spawns at a random location on the map. Both teams must fight to pick it up, drop it off at one of their opponent's three objectives, arm it, and destroy the objective.
Once the bomb has gone off, the next one randomly spawns in a new location. The game runs until one team has destroyed the other side's three objectives. Commander mode is optional for Obliteration.

Jimmy "DeMoN" Ho, Take5's team captain, just broke over Twitter that his team has been disqualified from the Major League Gaming Columbus Championship qualifiers for using an unregistered standins in their match against VexX Gaming yesterday. VexX will, according to Ho, move forward in the bracket due to Take5's forfeiture.
When GameSpot eSports asked Major League Gaming for a comment, Executive Vice President Adam Apicella told us:
"Take5 reached out to us about a roster change on 10/3. We let them know they could make additions to their roster prior to their first match. However, they made no additions to their roster. On 10/7, the day of their first match, they played a match with 2 stand ins that were not on their registered tournament roster, resulting in a DQ.
Their original tournament roster consisted of:
On the night of 10/7 Arteezy and Demon did not show up and were replaced by players that were not on the official roster."
A comment on Reddit appeared shortly after the news broke that alleged Take5 had used Arif "MSS" Anwar, the new mid player from Evil Geniuses, in their match. When GameSpot asked Ho whether he could confirm or deny the allegation he declined to comment.
The MLG Columbus Championship will take place on November 22nd to 24th at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio. The tournament will feature nine of the best Dota 2 teams from around the world, including the International 3 winners Alliance, Na'vi, DK, Evil Geniuses, Team Liquid, and boasts a $50,000 prize pool.
During a recent interview with Lost in the Multiplex, Drive composer and former Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Cliff Martinez revealed Far Cry 4 is in development.
Asked what projects he is currently working on, Martinez outed the unannounced game. The original text has been edited to remove mention of the game, but Polygon saw the story before the change was made.
"There's a secret mission that I'm not completely on yet, it looks like I'll also be doing a Soderbergh TV series called The Knick, and I'm working on a video game called Far Cry 4," he said. "So yeah, I'm popular all this week."
A fourth Far Cry game would not be much of a surprise. Ubisoft senior vice president of marketing and sales Tony Key
"We're totally psyched from [Far Cry 3]. It's a great brand, and now it's got the recognition it deserves, so we're clearly going to make another one; more on that soon," he said at the time.
The most recent entry in the series was May's Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, a downloadable spinoff that has sold
The Kickstarter campaign for a new James Pond game was canceled today after gathering £16,000 of its £100,000 goal from a total of 336 backers.
"Today after much discussion and thought we made the difficult decision to end our campaign early," project manager and producer PJ Belcher said.
"Although we have 12 days to go it's clear that we aren't going to make our £100,000 goal, so instead of pretending otherwise and continuing the updates we've decided to be honest with ourselves and with you and stop."
When the campaign launched last month, creator Chris Sorrell
Though the campaign "wasn't the success we'd hoped for," Belcher promised a "new, strong" campaign will be launched sometime in the future. More news on this new endeavor will be shared "soon," Belcher said.
One of the reasons the James Pond Kickstarter came up short was because developer Gameware Europe did not have enough of the game to show, Belcher said.
"This was a risk, and it didn't work out, but I will say a huge thank you to everyone who pledged," he said.
The original James Pond launched in 1990, and was successful enough to spawn two sequels, with James Pond 2 having been ported to many other platforms over the years.
Apple will hold a media event on October 22 during which the company will reveal the latest updates to its iPad line, according to people familiar with the company's plans speaking with AllThingsD.
Though the new iPad models will be the focus of the event, the sources said, the new Mac Pro and OS X Mavericks will also be featured during the proceedings.
The fifth generation iPad is rumored to boast a thinner and lighter design, as well as an improved camera, according to AllThingsD. It will also reportedly run Apple's
A second generation iPad mini--featuring a retina display and the A7 chip--will also be announced at the event, the report claims.
It has been rumored that Apple's new iPads will feature the Touch ID fingerprint scanner that was first seen in the iPhone 5s, though these reports have been unsubstantiated so far.

A Guinness World Records representative told GameSpot that, "Our records team worked directly with Rockstar Games on obtaining the figures."
Meanwhile, a Take-Two Interactive representative said the company had no hand in the data released today by Guinness.

No one should be allowed to define what a game is or should be, according to Quantic Dream studio head David Cage. Speaking with GameSpot about Beyond: Two Souls, Cage said he would like to see games break from tradition and tell new stories with new modes of play.
"Some people can be very conservative about this medium and this is sometimes frustrating," Cage said. "Some people wish that games would always stay what they were in the past 30 years, just with more polygons. No one should be allowed to define what a video game is or should be; no one has this power."
"A video game can be so many different things. Angry Birds is a game; Call of Duty is a game; World of Warcraft is a game; Gone Home is a game. Who can decide 'you are a video game', 'you are not a video game', 'you are not a part of this family?' No. Let's open this medium to whoever has different ideas and it's great to see people trying to do games where shooting is not the main thing."
Cage acknowledged that this discussion is "very interesting" in the context of the coming weeks and months when so many topline franchises--including shooters like Call of Duty: Ghosts and Battlefield 4--will be released. Cage described these franchises as "great," but said Beyond: Two Souls is something altogether different.
"Beyond is different. As a game creator, this is what I believe in," Cage said. "And I would like you to try it and hopefully you'll like it. It's a different route and this is definitely the route that I chose in my career."
Cage said Beyond: Two Souls already has a built-in audience from the success of predecessor Heavy Rain, but explained that he would like to convince new groups of people to give the game a try.
"There are people on both ends of the spectrum that we need to convince. One one side we have hardcore gamers who think that games should only be about shooting and about action and killing and competing and adrenaline," Cage said. "And we need to convince these people to give Beyond a try and say 'OK, this is going to be different'. Yeah, it's about a young woman. No she doesn't have a gun. And maybe you will enjoy the experience because it's different, because it's something maybe you haven't played before."
On the other end of this spectrum are people who are not familiar with games and may not have a full understanding of what a game can be, Cage said. He said if these people try Beyond: Two Souls they may learn games can be something more than what they thought they could be.
"They think video games are just about violence and that there is nothing there for them or that they are too complex to play or that they are not interested in shooting. And you say no, wait a minute, video games can be something else. Give Beyond a try and see if you enjoy it or not."
Beyond: Two Souls launched today exclusively on PlayStation 3.
The League of Legends $2 million Season 3 World Championships came to a close on Friday as 13,000 fans at the sold-out Staples Center in Los Angeles watched South Korea's SK Telecom T1 sweep China's Royal Club in three straight games to win $1 million.
Led by the 17-year old Mid-Lane superstar Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok and team Captain Lee "PoohManDu" Jeong-hyeon, SKT1 brings home the first world title for South Korea in League of Legends, the overwhelming national favorite for the championships. SKT1 was the final team from Korea to qualify for the world championships, and the final team overall as well.
"Back when I was participating in the Korean championships at OGN, all I thought was about making it to the World Championship," Faker told GameSpot shortly after hoisting the Summoners Cup. "But as I was walking down and lifted the cup up, I realized that my goal was to win this title and lift this cup up. This meant so much to me."
SKT1 practiced with Royal Club for dozens of games to prepare for the teams previous opponents Najin Sword and Fnatic in the Semifinals. Before the finals began, Royal Club Captain Pak-Kan "Tabe" Wong said that their team only won a few games during practice, and believed they only had a 20 percent chance of winning against SKT1. Faker was surprised by this.
"We were really apprehensive about whatever cards Royal Club may have been hiding because during our scrimmages, Royal were really easy; we won a lot of those games," he said. "So we figured there was something more that they were hiding. The games were a lot easier than expected. Now saying that, we did expect to win this match because we put in a lot of work for this."
"SKT just outclassed us," Tabe said after the finals in a Reddit AMA. "We disrespected the Jax pick and were just outplayed by mechanics, IQ, and team coordination. SKT is really a monster team. They are in my opinion the best."
While a number of teams will be undergoing roster changes and vacation time as the World Championships are over, SKT1 will continue to compete in the Korean qualifiers for the World Cyber Games 2013 Finals. Faker is grateful for his championship experience, and sees only continued success for his team.
"This is the happiest moment of my life," he said. "I can't believe it and I don't think I'll ever forget this moment. I'd really like to thank the fans in North America for their support. I'd like to ask the fans to instead of just focusing on me, give that attention to all of my teammates. Thanks to Riot Games for everything."
Riot Games Vice President of eSports Dustin Beck tweeted during Game 1 of the broadcast that there was an estimated 1 million concurrent users watching through Twitch, YouTube, and AzubuTV, with another 1 million concurrent users watching through streams in China and South Korea. Beck added in conservative estimates of an additional 4 million watching on TV in an unspecified number of countries.
"We aren't focused on numbers to measure whether we're succeeding with our eSports efforts," Beck told GameSpot before the finals. "We're mostly concerned about providing a great experience for fans. Audience numbers are certainly one metric to help understand whether we're doing that, and to that end we're really happy that fans continue to watch in increasing numbers. We're just as excited to read feedback from players that helps us improve, and to see an incredible outpouring of community support, like the hundreds of viewing parties that are happening around the world for tonight's games."
In a press conference prior to the finals, Riot Games revealed initial details for Season 4, including a January start date, and remaining 8 teams per region for North America and Europe. The location for next year's World Championship is still to be determined, with all options on the table. Through a
"It'll provide exposure to the next generation of pro-level teams and players, and give them crucial event experience and stability," said Beck. "Coke's sponsorship is unique--they recognized the importance of this aspirational level, they're as excited about it as we are."
Riot Games' Nick Allen said that the Challenger league will run alongside the LCS so that there will be attention overlap for both leagues, with Challenger games starting at the end of LCS each night.
Stay tuned to GameSpot eSports for coverage of the off-season leading into Season 4.
The second-screen experience for upcoming next-generation Tom Clancy game The Division will be "really meaningful," Massive Entertainment game director Ryan Bernard has said.
"We are creating a second-screen experience that will be really meaningful for the game," Bernard told Xbox Wire. "It will be a whole new experience for the group, through simultaneous and asymmetric gameplay between the mobile device and the console/PC game."
Explaining some of the functionality, Bernard said those playing through the app will be able to "seamlessly" join a game anywhere they want, as they control a drone. While playing as the drone, players will see the scene from a bird's eye view and are able to provide tactical support for teammates.
The Division is currently in development for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. The game is powered by the Snowdrop Engine and will be released in fall 2014. For more on the game's second-screen functionality, check out the trailer below.
Gabriel Knight creator Jane Jensen is remaking Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers for PC, Mac, iPad, and Android, it was announced today. The original game was released in December 1993.
Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Father 20th Anniversary Edition is being built from scratch and will feature new art, re-orchestrated music, and behind-the-scenes bonuses. It will be presented with 2048x1536 3D graphics, replacing the original's 640x480 pixel art. The game will be developed by Phoenix Online studios.
"I'm thrilled to be back at work on Gabriel Knight and to bring this classic game to a new generation of players," Jensen said in a statement. "It's a designer's dream to be able to enhance the game and bring in more New Orleans flavor than technical limitations allowed us to in 1993. It's going to look and feel like a brand new title. But never fear, 100 percent of the original Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers is here. I hope both existing fans and new players will love it."
Pinkerton Road and Phoenix Online Studios have been working on Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers 20th Anniversary Edition for about a year now. The studio is also working on a new adventure game called Moebius, set for release later this year.
Lima Sky's popular mobile game Doodle Jump is leaping to the Nintendo DS platform for the first time later this year. Doodle Jump Adventures is coming to the 3DS, while Doodle Jump Journey will be released on the DS.
"Doodle Jump is a natural fit on Nintendo's handhelds," Lima Sky cofounder Igor Pusenjak said in a statement..
Doodle Jump Adventures features a new Adventure mode that includes 48 levels with challenges, power-ups, and boss battles. The game also features an Endless Mode.
Meanwhile, Doodle Jump Journey for DS features the original game's three themes (Classic, Jungle, and Space) in Endless Mode.
Both versions were developed by Smoking Gun Interactive, which created Kinect Fun Labs titles Mars Rover Landing and Googly Eyes, as well as the Kinect version of Doodle Jump.
Doodle Jump remains one of the most popular games on iOS and Android.
Ubisoft has announced its DLC lineup for
Only the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC versions of the game will be able to purchase the game's DLC. Ubisoft does not mention the Wii U.
The main chunk of content revolves around the nine-mission single-player storyline Freedom Cry. This is set fifteen years after the events of the main campaign, and casts players as Edward Kenway's first mate Adewale, who's now a fully trained assassin, but finds himself shipwrecked in Saint-Domingue with no crew or weapons.
The season pass will also provide the Kraken Ship Pack, which gives owners more customisation options for Kenway's Jackdaw ship. This will not be available to purchase separately, Ubisoft adds.
Ubisoft also says additional DLC will provide players with more single-player missions, weapons, skins, and collectibles, alongside new characters for the game's multiplayer modes.
All of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag's DLC will be released before March 2014, with the season pass being available at launch. The cost of the season pass will be 20 percent less than buying the DLC individually, Ubisoft says. No exact price was given for the content.
Those who choose to preorder the Digital Deluxe version of the game through Ubisoft's own Uplay store will be eligible for a 25 percent saving on the season pass, the publisher adds.
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag will be released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii U on October 29. PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC versions will follow in November.
